Game Introduction
Five card stud is a favorite poker variation, with video poker you
can enjoy the game in a fast paced way with the chance at big pay
offs for the higher hands such as Royal Flushes. There are now over
50 different styles of game including versions where you can play
2, 3, 4 or even 100 hands in one go. Video Poker machines also have
a fairly low house advantage and are one of the few games that with
comps can be beatable in the long term.
Video Poker Rules
Play by first inserting money into the machine via either
the coin slot or the bill acceptor. You then simply decide how much
you want to bet by pushing the various buttons. To play at the maximum
possible bet just hit "Bet Max" and the cards will be dealt.
If you want to play at less than the maximum you will have to press
"Deal".
Once the cards are on your screen you can choose to hold any, all
or none of the cards. Press deal again the get the cards that you
didn't hold replaced with new ones. At this point the game is over
and you will either be paid for a win or your bet will be lost.
Some video poker machines offer an additional way to win via the double
feature. This comes in a range of forms from choosing red or black
or by selecting a card higher that the one dealt. The double option
has no inbuilt house advantage and uses the true odds of the deck
of cards.
There are many versions of video poker. The most popular is known
as "Jacks or Better" where the lowest possible winning combination
is a pair of jacks or higher. Other popular choices include Aces and
Faces where there is a bonus pay out for several four of kind combos
and Deuces Wild where al cards with the value of two are wild. In
addition to the different game features are the machines where you
can play multiple hands at once. These machines can be massively profitable
if for instance you are dealt a Royal Flush on the first deal.
Pay Offs and House Advantages
Pay outs vary from game to game but the usual max bet pay for a royal
flush is 4000 coins. The house edge on video poker is quite low and
can be calculated by looking at the values on the pay table.
