3 Card Poker is one of the fastest growing casino games in terms of popularity. Several years ago you would be hard pressed to find it at your local casino but now it is widely available everywhere. There are two ways to bet on each hand that are almost two different games.
Card Values And Rankings
Standard decks of playing cards are used with no jokers. All cards have their face value, Aces can be high or low. Straights pay off at a higher rate than flushes as they are harder to get with just three cards.
Three Card Poker Rules To start a game you need to place a bet on either the ante section or on the Pair Plus section or both. These bets will be explained further down. The dealer then deals three cards to himself and three cards to the players. At this point the Pair Plus bet is resolved. The other bet can be raised or folded. The dealers cards are and the players cards revealed and the highest hand wins.
The Pair Plus Bet : This bet is based on the players hand only, the dealers hand does not matter. It pays a fixed amount depending on what hand you have and loses if you have no hand. Pay offs start from a pair at the lowest and a straight flush at the highest.
Ante & and Raise Bet : This is a game of beat the dealer. You are dealt your three cards and you have to decide if you thing your three cards will beat the dealers. If you thing they will you can play on by raising your bet. If you have a bad hand you can fold and the game ends.
The dealer must qualify by getting Queen high or better. If the dealer gets less than this your ante bet is paid at 1 to 1 and your raise is returned. If the dealer qualifies and you win you are paid at 1 to 1. In most cases when you have a straight, three of a kind or a straight flush you will also receive a bonus pay out based on your ante bet.
Pay Offs and House Advantages
All higher hand wins pay out at odds of 1 to 1. Pay offs for the Pair Plus bonus hand vary from casino to casino but in general three of a kind pays 40 to 1, 30 to 1 for three of a kind, the lower hand vary. House edge on the ante and raise bet is about 2.5% and on the Pair Plus is about 3.5%.
